A major solar cell breakthrough was achieved by Day4 Energy which now claims that its technology will improve the solar cell efficiency by 19% and in the same time the costs will be decreased by 25%. These new solar cells were developed thanks to the company’s R&D program and the key was the design of the PV cells.
Day4 Energy is not at the first generation of solar cells as they already have one of the highest performing solar cells available for the commercial use. The first generation stood at a 14.7% efficiency and the Generation II of photovoltaic cells will easily replace the first technology as the equipments are compatible therefore Day4 Energy won’t encounter any problems when it’s going to deploy the new solar cells.
“I am truly proud of our research team. A combination of high performance technology with low cost and manufacturing scalability represents a very significant achievement in reducing the kilowatt-hour costs of solar electricity. Performance at this level using less costly multi-crystalline material cannot be achieved without employing the Day4 Electrode technology,” said Dr. John MacDonald, chairman and CEO of Day4 Energy.
The company is expecting that over the course of the next 18 months, their technology to be rapidly deployed and replace the old equipment and they are also hoping to attract more and more clients and partners.
