6 PCs, 1 Case - Custom Wall Mounted Renderfarm

Custom Wall Mounted Renderfarm

I guess that we are all geeks if we like to see new ways of customizing our PCs, but I think this guy is the ultimate geek as he placed six computers in one case and then he mounted the custom acrylic case on the wall. Our geek-designer is called Fredrik Perman and we all love what he has done with this office in North Carolina.

According to Perman, the inner back of the case is covered in diamond plate sheets while the frame is made of aluminum. The bottom, top and the sides were left open for ventilation reasons and another thing that we love, is that the designer mounted six LED fans in the case.

In order to make it even more attractive, the case feature 10×12-inch blue-cathode light strips behind the aluminum frame. All six processors of the PC are Intel Dual Core (hopefully, Perman will upgrade to core i7 when these come out) and also mounted on the wall you can find a 15-inch LCD screen, a keyboard and a track ball.

Very cool. Another variation would be to use some Ergotron equipment for the keyboard/mouse and display, and then leave the wall mount computers on the other side of the wall. That other side would for example become a data center hallway.

That room will never see vagina steping in.

That is one beautiful peice of work. That actually inspired me to go out and create something of my own. I rent an apartment so I need a different route. Can’t be punching holes in the wall.

    I agree :D

    Hey,

That is a very cool rig. It looks like a piece of artwork for your living room. My only concern would be the fan noise when your trying to watch tv.

    Regards,

    Wyatt

  6. Tom says:

Not only will it render, it will heat your home too.

  7. Katie says:

I don’t know.. this vagina is pretty impressed

  8. Siilex says:

    Too noisy.
At least he ought to replace 9mm with 12mm fan PSUs.

  9. bob says:

    why the stupid blue lights?

  10. Katie says:

But it is also weather beaten.

  11. Katherine says:

That’s a small monitor and only one?
    Looks cool though. :)

  12. One Question says:

Why use such a bitching kick arse array as a renderfarm…with that tiny little ass screen next to it? I’d find it pretty hard to look at what I’m rendering with that beautiful monster of a machine next to it.

  13. coated says:

So long as it is reasonably quiet, it doesn’t look bad on the wall all lit up….Mike

    Pics or it didn’t happen.

  16. Paco says:

It looks really cool. The only thing you have to do is mount a screen as big as the computer case next to it.

  17. Westchester Computer Services says:

Nice job. I would agree with those who mentioned using a larger LCD though.

  18. Taco says:

and turn the god damn LED lights OFF when watching anything on that screen in the dark.

“That room will never see vagina steping in.”

Hot damn that is a sexy computer. I’d do him if he let me render my projects on that thing.

  20. Erin says:

What OS and render software are you running?

It looks like a pretty package but can you show us something it does.

  22. SilentJay74 says:

Ok, cool rig, but why? I understand maybe a fail over cluster, but with the user interface being on a wall this lacks usability. I see the 8 port KVM mounted, but still this interface needs some work. While it is cool that the whole rig is on the wall, it we be much cooler if the interface were accessible from a couch on a 50 inch plasma. I mean seriously who wants to surf porn standing up? Just my $.02.

  23. pico says:

Agree with silent jay. No one wants to stand up and use computer, especially with that stupid mouse and small monitor. File this under “sounded cool when i was high, but in hindsight, was a totally retarded idea.”

  24. OMaui says:

    @ pico and Silent Jay…

It’s a “render farm”. It isn’t intended to be used for entertainment or for random web surfing. The monitor is only used to set up the process, you don’t want to waste CPU when you need it dedicated to rendering.

It can take hours to render one single frame, but most animation programs allow rendering to multiple computers in a batch process. Distributing the task between many systems drastically speeds the process up.

More than you needed to know, but knowing is half the battle!

  25. Dan says:

the desire to keep the CPU usage a bit lower by using a 15-inch screen is understandable… but hot damn it would look uber-fantastic with at least a 22″ monitor. definitely an awesome setup. :)

  26. W says:

Find me a weather-proof critter-proof box, remove the lights, and mount it outside. Noise and heat problem resolved! I guess the air-intake would be susceptible to flora and fauna. Tsk Tsk.

I found this site looking for a way to fit 2 mATX boards into one case. Lol.

  27. WidowMaker says:

He won’t need to turn the heat on in the Winter!
